Steffen Wolf

Steffen Wolf lives and works as a composer and singer in Hamburg. In his piano, chamber and vocal music he explores possibilities of composing in the border areas of music, painting and poetry as well as old and new music. Above all, the painterly and graphic work of the Hamburg artist Carmen Hillers have inspired him to write numerous compositions, which are collected on the LP “Acht Blicke auf Mondenschein” (2015), among others. Other publications and projects to date include “Der Vogelsang” for string quartet and narrator (to be performed at the Elbphilharmonie in 2019; CD release in 2021 on the Tyxart label), the “Deutsche Vaccai Series” on Breitkopf&Härtel, and the book publication “Klangvolle Zeiten – Musik in Hamburg.” For years he has been working with the toy piano as the center of performances. Pieces that have been created include the Beatles performance “Maxwell’s silver”, the Schubert performance “Lachen und Weinen” for toy piano, pantomime and choir recordings, the interpretation of the “Little Mermaid” for dancer and toy piano in “Dort oben” and the performance “The Cut” for live hairdresser including model, vocals and toy piano.

2023 will see the publication of “Duett-Vaccai” – 24 duets based on poems by Heinrich Heine on Breitkopf&Härtel and the chamber music CD “Essais musicales” on the Tyxart label with works on the theme of time and the arts of literature, painting and architecture.
