Erik Griswold
Erik Griswold is a composer, pianist, and sound artist who works with contemporary classical, improvised, and experimental music. Throughout his career, he has pushed the boundaries of the piano in projects such as Ecstatic Descent (“powerful music that connects with both nature and the spiritual,” Sequenza 21), The Piano Mill (“densely layered, shimmering sonority,” Australian Stage), and 84 Pianos (“joyful and brilliant,” Limelight Magazine).
His kinetic sound installations explore visual and auditory wave phenomena, using scientific data to create vivid “sonifications” and bring long-term environmental trends to life. Griswold has collaborated for over two decades with legendary pianist and toy pianist Margaret Leng Tan, from the solo suite “Old MacDonald’s Yellow Submarine” to the one-woman show “Dragon Ladies Don’t Weep,” which toured Australia, Asia, and London’s Southbank Centre and won the Australia Art Music Awards’ “Dramatic Work of the Year” award.
