Niko Yin, born in 2002 in Xuancheng, China, began playing the piano at the age of five. In 2014, she entered the Secondary School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she studied composition with Qiang Weihao and Gao Hong. In 2015, she won fourth prize at the Los Angeles International Youth Piano Competition, and in 2017 she received first prize at the Singapore International Youth Piano Competition. Since 2021, she has been studying composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Xiaoyong Chen and Gordon Kampe, completing her Bachelor’s degree there in 2025. In October 2025, she continued her Master’s studies in composition at the same institution with Gordon Kampe.

Her compositional interests are primarily focused on opera and theatre, alongside chamber music works. She is also actively engaged in cross-media collaborations, such as combining experimental film with live music, seeking to expand musical expression and deepen connections with audiences through diverse artistic forms.

Over the past few years, Niko Yin’s works have been presented in Germany and through international collaborations, working with ensembles including Ensemble Resonanz, LUX:NM, Hashtag Ensemble, and Sinawi Ensemble. Her music has been featured in projects and festivals such as Akademie Kontemporär, Tage aktueller Musik, and Non-Piano/Toy Piano Weekend. In summer 2026, she took part in the SYNTHETIS International Summer Course for Composers in Poland, where she developed and presented a new work and worked with composers including Simon Steen-Andersen and Ondřej Adámek
