Daria-Karmina Iossifova

Born in Sofia, Daria’s musical journey began within her  family circle. Through her grandmother’s everyday singing, she was exposed early on to the world of music. At the age of 4, she received her first piano lessons from her mother. Two years later, after passing the entrance examination, Daria was accepted into the music high school in Sofia. Until her graduation in 1998, she played numerous concerts as a soloist as well as in chamber music ensembles. During this time she met the pianist Angela Tosheva, who played a decisive role in her musical development, awakening Daria’s interest in contemporary music. In 1995 she won the 2nd prize at the national piano competition “Liszt-Bartók”, in 2000 the 1st prize at the international piano duo competition (with Sona Feschian) “The Music and the Earth” in Sofia. From 2003-2009 Daria continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (class of Prof. Ralf Nattkemper). During her studies she received support from the Brahms Foundation, Otto Stöterau Foundation and the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation.

She has given solo and chamber music concerts at the Festival Internacional Cervantino (Mexico), Autumn Sound-Chengdu Music Festival- touring with Moritz Eggert, (China), Elbphilharmonie, Klub Katarakt Festival (Hamburg) and the Accidental Music Festival (USA). Inspiring and important for Daria’s development are, among others, the encounters with the Bulgarian cellist Dimitar Kozev, as well as with the pianists Jean-Pierre Collot and Nicolas Hodges.

She is a member of Ensemble Babylon in Bremen and the Non-Piano Ensemble in Hamburg.
